Cary/Chatham Continue Collaborative Planning Process for Land In Eastern Chatham County
Cary, NC – After laying the groundwork for six years, the Town of Cary and Chatham County will seek feedback from their citizens for a proposed Joint Land Use Plan in separate public hearings: the Cary Town Council’s hearing will be part of its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 24 at Cary Town Hall, 316 N. Academy St; the Chatham Board of Commissioners’ hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on January 17 in the Agriculture Building Auditorium in Pittsboro. Once adopted, the Joint Land Use Plan will guide local governments with future growth in the more than 18,000 acres between Jordan Lake and the Chatham-Wake County line, White Oak Creek in the south and the Durham County line to the north. The plan will also define areas that may be eligible for future Cary water and sewer service.
“The two governments have been working together since 2005 to create a master plan to guide both growth and preservation in that part of Chatham County,” said Scott Ramage, Principal Planner for the Town of Cary. “There’s been tremendous citizen involvement thus far, and we’re excited to hear feedback on what could be very close to a final plan." Ramage added that residents will also be able to comment on the plan at the Town of Cary Planning and Zoning Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 20 in the Cary Council Chambers.
Recommendations from both planning boards will be referred to the Joint Issues Committee, comprised of members of the Cary Town Council and the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, to review and make final recommendations to the Cary Town Council and the Chatham Board of Commissioners, both of which must adopt the same final Joint Land Use Plan.
Upcoming Cary Town Council meeting agendas are posted to the website the Friday prior to the meeting and can be found by searching “Town Council agenda” at www.townofcary.org or by calling (919) 469-4082.
