Cary's A-Team Snow Fighters Hit the Streets in Full Force
CARY, NC – It turned into a white Christmas, and the Town of Cary’s A-Team has hit the streets overnight battling the winter storm targeting the Town’s main roads, bridges, significant hills and historically icy spots. For their safety, motorists are encouraged to be alert for slow-moving spreaders and plows or, better yet, stay off of the streets entirely. Snow Fighters start plowing once one-inch of snow has fallen, clearing thoroughfares first followed by primary roads in subdivisions, then thru-streets in subdivisions and then cul-de-sacs.
There has been one storm-related traffic crash with non-life threatening injuries reported thus far in Cary
“As the storm unfolds, we can’t overstate the importance of citizens’ not parking on streets so that our crews can be successful,” said Public Works & Utilities Director Steve Brown.
The Town’s Snow Fighter’s are accessing 3000 tons of sand/salt mix, 650+ tons of pure salt, and about 60 pieces of winter weather-fighting equipment, including pick-up truck plows, to clear Cary’s 687 linear miles of streets, about 447 miles of which are within subdivisions.
Please do not call 911 unless there is an immediate threat to life, health, or property. All non-emergency snow calls should be placed to (919) 469-4090. In addition:
• Be neighborly. Check on neighbors to make sure everyone is OK.
• Stay indoors. If you do decide to venture out—whether walking or driving—let folks know when and where you are going so they can contact emergency officials should you fail to reach your destination. Take a cell phone just in case.
C-Tran does not operate on Federal holidays; its next day of scheduled service is Monday, December 27; riders are encouraged to call C-Tran directly at (919) 481-2020 for updates. In addition, the Town’s community centers and recreation facilities are regularly scheduled to be closed December 25-27; no programs or classes will be held.
