Cary's A-TEAM Preps for Wintry Weather
Brining operations underway
CARY, NC – With weather forecasters calling for the possibility of snow overnight, the Town of Cary’s A-Team is fully prepared should wintry weather affect the Cary community. Brining operations are underway and all main thoroughfares will be completed by early evening; plows and spreaders are fully equipped and loaded; and Snow Command will be fully operational at 6 p.m. today unless changing conditions warrant different action.
“We are monitoring the weather very closely,” said Town of Cary Public Works Director Scott Hecht. “Although this storm does not look like it will be as significant as our last winter weather event, we are prepared to tackle whatever Mother Nature delivers.”
The Town’s 180 A-Team Snow Fighters have 1800 tons of sand/salt mix on hand along with more than 360 tons of pure salt. Also, the Town has 55 pieces of snow-fighting equipment available to clear Cary’s 676 miles of linear roads, about 445 linear miles of which are within subdivisions.
Should wintry weather materialize, Cary’s A-Team will clear thoroughfares first followed by primary roads in subdivisions, then thru-streets in subdivisions and then cul-de-sacs. The Town does not clear private parking lots, including those in apartment and condominium complexes or at businesses.
Citizens are reminded of the following tips during inclement weather:
• Do not park on streets so that plows and other Town equipment can service the area.
• Do not attempt to deal with downed limbs or trees on a street or sidewalk on your own as they may be tangled in live power lines; instead, call the Town at (919) 469-4090.
• The Town of Cary Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources programs, classes, and sports activities will be held as scheduled for Friday, February 12. A decision regarding programs for Saturday, February 13 will be made by 7 a.m. For more information, call (919) 469-4061 or any Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources facility. For a listing of facility information, visit the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources on the Town's Web site, www.townofcary.org.
• C-Tran fixed route and door-to-door transit services run on schedule for as long as doing so is considered safe. Riders are encouraged to call C-Tran directly at (919) 481-2020 for updates.
• Be neighborly. Check on neighbors to make sure that everyone is OK.
• Stay indoors during severe winter weather. If you do decide to venture out—whether walking or driving—let folks know when and where you are going so that they can contact emergency officials should you fail to reach your destination. Take a cell phone just in case.
