Cary Town Band to Kick Off 2010 Spring Sertoma Series

CARY, NC – In the first of six free events in the 2010 Spring Sertoma Series, the Cary Town Band will present music of a bygone era, complete with marches, waltzes and rags of the 1890s and early 1900s, at the Town of Cary’s Sertoma Amphitheatre at Bond Park, 801 High House Road, on Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. This small 21 year-old, 30-piece band is typical of the town bands of that era.

“Our goal is to present the very best artists in Cary and beyond in our Sertoma Series,” said Town of Cary Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Preston. “From traditional jazz bands to adult choirs to youth performers, the Spring Sertoma Series is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy free outdoor events.”

Other concerts this season include: Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, April 18 at 3 p.m.; Mangum Shout Band, May 8 at 3 p.m.; and the Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle, May 16 at 3 p.m.

Other entertaining performing arts events at Sertoma Amphitheatre this spring include the 4th Annual Cary Performs event on April 24 as part of the Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival. It will showcase the talents of Applause! Youth Theatre, Cary Players, Cary Ballet, Concert Singers of Cary, Philharmonic Association, Triangle Wind Ensemble, Triangle Brass Band and more. On May 15 at 4 p.m., the SAS Showchoir VocalMotion will present a Broadway-style musical revue that includes a variety of music from pop to country, Billy Joel to Michael Jackson and everything in between.

In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the Kiwanis Shelter in Bond Park, same date and time. Cary Performs will follow the Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival rain plan, and there is no rain location or alternative date for the SAS Showchoir VocalMotion or Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle.
