Town of Cary Contractors to Begin Final Phase of Morrisville Parkway Extension
Work to Connect Davis Drive to NC 55
CARY, NC – As part of the Town of Cary’s commitment to maintain and improve infrastructure, contractors working on behalf of the Town will begin the final phase of the Morrisville Parkway Extension; this work, scheduled to begin on March 15, will complete Morrisville Parkway and connect Davis Drive to NC Highway 55. Construction, led by CC Mangum Company, LLC of Raleigh, will add .5 miles of road stretched over a 1.2-mile section of roadway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
A three-part project, the final phase of the Morrisville Parkway Extension will install four lanes with a median and sidewalks on both sides, as well as wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles. Crews will address two stream crossings: one with the installation of a bridge at Louis Stephens Drive and Preston Village Way and one with a culvert. A railroad crossing will be installed between Carpenter Upchurch and NC 55. Finally, a 16” water main will be extended from Davis Drive to connect to the existing water main in Morrisville Parkway near Ashmore Drive. This phase of the project costs $5.97 million and is being funded through the Town’s Capital Reserve Fund with Powell Bill proceeds.
Drivers in this area should be aware that work will be performed 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Residents and businesses near the construction area received a notification letter in the mail this week.
“Outside of temporary single lane closures, we expect minimal impact with the existing roadways in the area; as a precaution and to help local businesses and residents, message boards will be placed along the roadway to alert drivers,” said Town of Cary Engineer and project manager Eric Simpson.
