Cary Joins Communities Nationwide to Celebrate Safety
CARY, NC – On Tuesday, August 3, communities across the country will celebrate crime prevention and neighborhood safety in honor of National Night Out. Locally, the Town of Cary Police Department invites citizens to Cary Towne Center, 1105 Walnut Street, from 6:30-9 p.m. for an interactive and informative evening of awareness. Police vehicles, fire trucks and emergency vehicles will be on display, and parents may obtain children identification kits. Information on Geopolicing, the Town’s newest approach to community safety, and home safety inspections will be available, too.
“Our partnership with the community is what helps to keep Cary the safest large community in North Carolina,” said Town of Cary Community Services Officer Brian Austin. “National Night Out stresses the important partnership between public safety officials and the citizens we serve, and we believe our local event will be fun and informative for adults and children alike.”
In addition to the safety event at Cary Towne Center, officials will be visiting neighborhoods and meeting community watch groups and homeowner associations by request. Participants in this year’s National Night Out celebration include members of the Cary Town Council, the Town of Cary Police Department, Citizens Assisting Police (CAP) Team, Town of Cary Fire Department, Cary EMS, City-County Bureau of Identification and Cary Towne Center.
Cary continues to be one of the safest communities in the United States and the safest in North Carolina. Despite growth, the 2009 crime index was the lowest since 2005. According to the 2010 Biennial Citizen Satisfaction Survey, one of the things Cary citizens like the most about their community is its safety, and based on the survey results, they feel safe in their homes, our parks and shopping areas. Town Safety officials encourage citizens to continue to be proactive in their neighborhoods.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in anti-crime efforts; and strengthen police-community communications. Last year’s events involved over 36 million people in 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
