Investigations Continue in Cary's Overnight Murder
CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department continues to investigate the murder of Apex resident Jibrael Menelik, 28, who was fatally shot at 700 Pony Club Circle, Cary. Police officials spent yesterday on-scene canvassing the area for potential witnesses. Investigators worked through the night gathering clues from the crime scene. Today, the Town of Cary Police Department will continue investigative efforts and assisting CCBI with scene processing. A community meeting for area residents is expected to be held early this week.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on April 10, Town of Cary Police officers responded to a report of a gun shot at Pony Club Circle in northwestern Cary, where neighbors reportedly heard two men arguing. Upon arrival, officers found Menelik in the breezeway of the 700 building, shot but conscious. Emergency personnel transferred him to Duke University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. This is Cary’s first murder since 2008.
“As we emphasized in our meeting yesterday with members of Mr. Menelik’s family, we will continue to investigate and are committed to bringing swift and just closure to this case,” said Captain Michael Williams. “We encourage anyone with any information to report it to the Town of Cary Police Department, their local police department or Crime Stoppers.”
The Town of Cary Police Department seeks help in identifying the suspect: a black male, approximately 5-foot 5-inches, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a gray hoodie with an orange rectangle on the sleeve. Anyone near the area during the time of the murder is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or can file reports anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E). Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
