Cary Investigates First Murder Since 2008


CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department is investigating the murder of Jibrael Menelik, 28, of Apex, who was shot at 700 Pony Club Circle, Cary. The Police Department is seeking your help in finding a black male, approximately 5-foot 5-inches, with a slim build, who was last seen wearing dark pants and a gray hoodie. Currently, there is no other information available.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Town of Cary Police officers responded to a report of a gun shot at Pony Club Circle in northwestern Cary, where neighbors reportedly heard two men arguing. Upon arrival, officers found Menelik in the breezeway of the 700 building, shot but conscious. Emergency personnel transferred him to Duke University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

“A full investigation is underway and our thoughts are with Mr. Menelik’s family and his loved ones,” said Captain Michael Williams.

The Town of Cary Police Department is asking the community for assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone near the area during the time of the murder is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or can file reports anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E). Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
