Crime Alert- Copper Wire Larcenies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2010

– CRIME ALERT –

Cary citizens are encouraged to be on the lookout for thieves stealing wiring from residential exterior cooling units. Over the last two months, nine reports of copper wiring larcenies from A/C units have been reported in central and southern Cary. No one has been hurt in these incidents, and no other property was stolen. Police do not know if these crimes are linked to the same suspect(s).

To help prevent these types of crimes, the Town of Cary Police Department reminds citizens to inspect their home’s exterior on a regular basis. Real estate agents and property managers should make frequent visits to vacant properties or properties for sale or rent. Please be mindful of any suspicious or idling vehicles in residential areas, do not hesitate to ask repair workers for proper identification, and always call police with suspicions.

For more crime prevention tips, see the Police Department section of www.townofcary.org or call (919) 469-4324.

Town of Cary Crime Alerts are intended to quickly raise public awareness of a potential or emerging crime issue so that citizens can take preventative action. Crime Alerts are typically issued before substantial information or evidence exists to point to a particular suspect or warrant a full news release. For real-time crime information, follow the Town of Cary on Twitter @TOC_Safety.
