Table Tennis Athletes Worldwide Flock to Cary for 9th Annual Butterfly Cup Championship
Citizens Invited to Clinic, Observe as Pros Compete for $11,000

CARY, NC – More than 300 international athletes will gather in Cary to compete in the 2010 Butterfly  Cary Cup Championship—the largest round robin table tennis competition in the United States—on March 18-21, 2010, at the Bond Park Community Center, 150 Metro Park Drive. Local table tennis enthusiasts are also invited to improve their skills at the table tennis clinic on Thursday, March 18 from 4-5 p.m. Registration is required for this free clinic.

As part of the Cary Cup Championship, top U.S. National Team members and International Table Tennis Federation Pro-Tour players from Europe, Africa and Asia will compete for their share of $11,000 in total prize money, including the #1 ranked player from Canada. The Cary Cup Championship is a major 4-star sanctioned competition by USA Table Tennis, the official governing body of table tennis in America as set forth by the United States Olympic Committee.

“It is an honor to host these elite table tennis athletes,” said Dwayne Jones, Recreation Manager. “Everyone is invited to test their skills during our free table tennis clinic and then stay for the excitement of the round robin tournament. This is a great opportunity to master table tennis and then use those talents throughout the year at our local competitions at Middle Creek Community Center.”

Interested participants can register for the free clinic through the EZ-REG (course code 44724) or by calling Bond Park Community Center at (919) 462-3970. Table tennis enthusiasts interested in competing in Friday or Saturday’s tournaments should check www.carytta.net for availability, registration requirements and fees. A limited number of spots remain.
