Peculiar Plastics and Private Papers to be Collected at America Recycles Event
November 9, 2010
CARY, NC – In honor of America Recycles Day, the Town of Cary’s Spruce program will host a unique recycling event on November 13, from 9-11 a.m. at the Garmon Operations Center. Cary residents may bring rigid plastics and up to three boxes of pre-shredded paper or paper documents for secure onsite shredding for proper disposal. This is the first event hosted by Spruce -- the Town’s beautification program -- in conjunction with America Recycles Day
“Items like shredded paper, flower pots, buckets, garbage cans, storage bins/lids, laundry baskets and pet carriers are not currently accepted in our curbside program but can be recycled at this event,” said Heather Morell, Conservation Specialist with the Town. “Take advantage of this unique opportunity to recycle more, plus register to win green prizes like a backyard compost bin and a CFL home recycling kit.”
Since 1997, communities across the country have come together each November to celebrate America Recycles Day. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States.
Spruce is Cary’s volunteer-based program designed to connect citizens to beautification, litter/waste reduction and environmental service projects in the community. The program received the 2010 Outstanding Litter Prevention Program Award, and since its launch in 2009, nearly 1,250 volunteers have invested 3,100 volunteer hours to collect almost 20,000 pounds of litter and 48 tons of household hazardous waste.
