Art is in the Air This Saturday at Cary Dedication
October 29, 2010
CARY, NC – In partnership with Cary Visual Art, the Town of Cary will host a public art dedication on Saturday, October 30, at 2-3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Maynard Road on the Black Creek Greenway. In addition to kid-friendly arts and crafts, live entertainment and refreshments, the first piece of art in a three-part series will be formally revealed and dedicated. The piece is one of three sculptures to be installed along the Black Creek Greenway that together create “The Arts Alfresco.”
“The Town’s Public Art Master Plan places priority on integrated art approaches, and this project offers a unique opportunity to blend art with our greenways and achieve those goals,” said Lyman Collins, Cultural Arts Manager. “This piece, along with other public art in Cary, continues to enhance our sense of community and make Cary a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.”
“The Arts Alfresco,” Italian for In the Air, is designed to illustrate how creative thought and action can be inspired by the open air. The first piece is a brick sculpture of people on benches making music and writing. The future installations will carry the same theme and be incorporated into Black Creek Greenway’s pedestrian bridge on NW Maynard Road and at the entrance to the underpass that leads to the Robert V. Godbold and Cary Dog Park. The Black Creek Greenway is one of Cary’s longest and most popular greenways, extending in segments from Lake Crabtree to Bond Park for a total length of over 5.5 miles.
Since 1997, Cary Visual Art has worked with the Town of Cary to place over 50 works of art, valued at more than $1 million. Learn more about the Arts Alfresco dedication at www.caryvisualart.org, visit Public Art at www.townofcary.org or call (919) 469-4061.
