CARY, NC – The Town of Cary is proud to partner with the Ujima Group, Inc. for the 12th Annual African-American Celebration, which celebrates African-American culture and history through this year’s theme, “Empowering Young Minds.” The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, February 20 at the Herbert C. Young Community Center on the Town Hall Campus in downtown Cary.
A diverse line-up of artists, dancers and musicians are on tap for the celebration. New performers include the Jordan Farrell Dance Group, Campaign4Change, Congolese drummer Pline Mounseo and singer/songwriter Louis Deloatch. The event will culminate with a performance by returning Jazz artist Abdullah Rahman. A Census Information Station will be present for anyone with questions about the 2010 Census.
“Our African-American Celebration presents a unique opportunity to take advantage of outstanding local talent whose offerings create a wonderful environment to celebrate the strength that diversity and uniqueness brings to our community,” said Rob Garner, Cultural Arts Program Specialist.
