911 Calls Released as Menelik Murder Investigation Continues

CARY, NC – In accordance with North Carolina Public Records Law, the Town of Cary Police Department is releasing the 911 calls made in the Jibrael Menelik murder case.

The first call was made to the Cary 911 Communications Center at 2:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The second call was made to the Cary 911 Communications Center at 2:02 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The third call was made to the Cary 911 Communications Center at 2:34 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

As this case is still under investigation, the Town of Cary will not answer questions about these public records. The Cary Police Department is continuing its thorough investigation into Menelik’s death; the department will host a community meeting at The Grove at Cary Park, 4545 Cary Glen Boulevard, Cary this Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. for residents of the apartment community and local neighbors. Members of the media will not be admitted.

In the early hours of Saturday, April 10, Town of Cary Police officers responded to a report of shots fired at Pony Club Circle in northwestern Cary. Upon arrival, officers found Apex resident Jibrael Menelik, 28, in the breezeway of the 700 building, shot but conscious. Menelik was transported to Duke University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. This is Cary’s first murder since 2008.

The Town of Cary Police Department seeks help in identifying the suspect: a black male with a slim build. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a gray hoodie. Anyone near the area during the time of the murder is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or can file reports anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E). Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
