Cary Community Needed to Make Annual Star of Hope Campaign Shine
Estrella de la Esperanza gives gifts, groceries to needy Hispanic families
CARY, NC – In partnership with Diamante, Inc., the Town of Cary is proud to support the sixth annual “Estrella de la Esperanza” (Star of Hope) Campaign, a holiday tradition within the Latino community to celebrate the season of brotherhood by providing gifts and groceries to children and their families in need. The campaign runs from Dec. 10-Jan. 8 and includes three events: the “Arbolito de la Esperanza” on Dec. 10, the “Dia de los Reyes Parade” and the “Estrella de la Esperanza” Gift Giving Celebration on Jan. 8, 2011. All events are free and open to the public.
“Both educational and inspirational, the Estrella de la Esperanza campaign is a great way to give back to your local community during this season of giving while learning the rich traditions of Hispanic culture,” said Lyman Collins, Town of Cary’s Cultural Arts Manager.
Kicking off the “Estrella de la Esperanza” campaign is the “Arbolito de la Esperanza,” a community tree lighting event. Set for 6:30 p.m. at the Herbert C. Young Community Center, the event includes a pot luck dinner with various Latino holiday foods, live entertainment and the naming of the “Dia de los Reyes Parade” princess and prince. All guests are encouraged to make Estrella donations and then place a star on the tree. Donations will continue to be accepted until Jan. 7, 2010.
The campaign ends on Jan. 8 with a parade and gift-giving celebration. At 2:30 p.m. at the boathouse in Bond Park, families will gather for the “Dia de los Reyes Parade,” a parade to reflect on the procession of the Three Kings. Immediately following the parade, the gift-giving celebration will start. Live entertainment, traditional breads and hot cocoa will be served as gifts collected during the “Estrella de la Esperanza” campaign will be distributed to low-income Latino children and their families.
Diamante, Inc. is dedicated to the preservation, development, and promotion of the culture, heritage, and artistic expressions of the diverse Latino/Hispanic population in North Carolina. Diamante is the leading organization to recognize the achievements and contributions made to the Latino/Hispanic community of North Carolina. The “Estrella de la Esperanza” campaign is just one of many cultural events throughout the year jointly sponsored by Diamante, Inc. and the Town of Cary.
