Teen Charged with Hit and Run in Early Morning Cary Accident
CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department has arrested Daryl Torres, 19, of Village Greenway in Cary in today’s early morning crash on Maynard Road. He has been charged with Felony Hit and Run and Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. He also was charged with Failure to Appear on Simple Assault based on an outstanding warrant with the Durham Police Department. If convicted of charges related to this morning’s case, he could receive 20-49 months in prison. He is currently being held at the Wake County Public Safety Center in Raleigh, NC.
Shortly before 4 a.m. today, Town of Cary Police responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of SW Maynard Road and Tanglewood Drive. Evidence at the scene indicated that Torres, driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero reported stolen by the Apex Police Department, had been traveling on SW Maynard Road toward Walnut Street when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest at the intersection. Police found passenger Ja-Lyn Braen Hunt, 17, of Eyam Hall Lane, Apex, ejected from the vehicle. Hunt was taken to WakeMed Raleigh with life-threatening injuries. Torres fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. The intersection was reopened at 6:30 a.m.
“As we continue our investigation, we encourage anyone with additional information to call their local police department or Cary Crime Stoppers,” said Lt. Randall Rhyne, head of the Town of Cary’s Traffic Safety Team.
