Cary Continues to Monitor Weather Overnight

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 18, 2009
9 p.m.

CARY, NC – With temperatures falling and weather forecasts calling for a wintry weather mix throughout the evening, the Town of Cary’s Snow Fighters are standing by to monitor Cary’s thoroughfares. Light snow fell briefly in Cary around noon, followed by a second round of brief snow, sleet, and rain around 6 p.m., creating the potential for slick spots on roads. There have been 15 storm-related traffic accidents reported thus far in Cary.

Based on the continued cold temperatures forecasted for the area, drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution and be on the lookout for black ice, especially tonight and tomorrow morning. Town crews will hit cold spots with sand and salt as needed until the threat is substantially eliminated.

OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS

A decision regarding canceling Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources programs, classes, and sports activities will be made by 7 a.m. for programs that begin after 9 a.m. Participants should call the facility in which the program is being held for an update. Cary Tennis Park and Sk8-Cary will adhere to normal inclement weather procedures. For more information, call (919) 469-4061.

Transit riders may call C-Tran at (919) 481-2020 to confirm that service will be available.

COMMUNICATIONS

Do not call 911 unless there is an immediate threat to life, health, or property. All non-emergency snow calls should be placed to (919) 469-4012. Complete wintry weather information is also available on the Town’s Web site, www.townofcary.org.

This is the final update unless changing conditions warrant a different action.
