Triangle Teens to Explore the Mind, Body and Soul at Cary Teen Forum

CARY , NC Teens ages 11-18 will gather at Cary ’s Herb Young Community Center , 101 Wilkinson Ave. , on Saturday, March 21 for “Mind, Body & Soul – Cary Teen Forum”,
10 a.m.-2 p.m. :  during the conference-style event, participants will learn the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through interactive classes and informational booths.  Advance tickets are still available for the event at any of the Town’s Community Centers or through EZ-REG for $5 (residents) and $7 (non-residents); registration the day of the event is $10 (residents) and $13 (non-residents). 

 

Three classes will be held that focus on healthy living, including “Healthy Foods vs. Bad Foods”, a session for participants will learn about “brain foods”. Also, students will learn Zumba – the new dance wave designed to boost energy – in the “Get Your Healthy Groove On” class.  The “How to Relax” session will focus ways to lower stress levels. 

 

“As a Town that has been recognized as a FIT community, we are pleased to offer this forum to teens and promote a healthy way of life at an early age,” said Assistant Community Center Supervisor Cindi King.  “Best of all, this event is planned by teens and gives adolescents an opportunity to talk amongst their peers about subjects that matter to them the most.”

 

The Town of Cary was awarded the FIT Community designation in 2007.  The FIT Community designation is a public acknowledgment of the Town of Cary ’s livability and commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents through programs and policies.

 

The Town offers a variety of programs, events and classes throughout the year just for teens.   For example, Teen Scene offers an array of classes, such as dancing and test-taking skills.  Trips are also planned for Kings Dominion in June, White Water Rafting on the Nantahala in July and Campus Cruisin' 101 in August.  Also, teens ages 11-18 can join the Cary Teen Council, a volunteer service organization,which is comprised of high school and middle school members from surrounding public and private schools.
