CARY INVITES RESIDENTS TO TOWN HALL ON WEDNESDAY FOR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE

Town to fill 41 vacancies on 10 boards, including openings for ETJ & Morrisville residents

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary is opening its doors on Wednesday evening, June 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 8: p.m. to area residents interested in applying for one of 41 openings on 10 volunteer boards and commissions; the open house will begin in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 316 N. Academy St., followed by an opportunity for citizens to ask questions of representatives from each board.  The boards and commissions were established to give citizens input into what happens in the community and to advise the Town Council on matters that affect citizens and their Town government.

Applications are being accepted now through June 30 for appointments to the following boards and commissions:

  • Economic Development Commission – 6 vacancies

  • Environmental Advisory Board – 3 vacancies

  • Information Services Advisory Board – 4 vacancies

  • Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Advisory Board – 4 vacancies

  • Planning and Zoning Board – 3 vacancies

  • Public Art Advisory Board – 7 vacancies

  • Sister Cities Commission – 7 vacancies

  • Town Center Review Commission – 3 vacancies

  • Utility Board of Adjustment – 3 vacancies for Cary or Morrisville residents

  • Zoning Board of Adjustment – 1 ETJ vacancy

Residents living in Cary ’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) may apply for the one ETJ vacancy on the Zoning Board of Adjustment.  Also because Cary provides water and sewer services to Morrisville, Morrisville residents may apply for one of three vacancies on the Utility Board of Adjustment.

“We welcome all residents interested in getting involved with local government to the open house for an opportunity to talk one-on-one with current members or staff of boards and commissions,” said Deputy Town Clerk Karen Gray.  “Our citizen boards play a vital role in helping keep Cary one of the best places in America to live, work, and raise our families.”

Following the application deadline, the Town Council will review the applications and appoint members during a council meeting in September 2009.  Selected applicants will volunteer for three-year staggered terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled.  To print out a copy of the application visit the Boards and Commissions section of the Town’s Web site at www.townofcary.org, or to complete and submit the application electronically, email mary.fealey@townofcary.org.
