October 16, 2009

CARY, NC – Parents looking for safe options for their kids this Halloween need not look any further than the Town of Cary; the Town has brewed up loads of activities for kids of every age beginning this weekend with a performance of “Dracula”, through the following two weekends along with storytelling, treats, movies and more! Also, Cary Police will also be visiting Cary daycares to help little “trick or treaters” be more safe this Halloween.

Beginning Thursday, October 15-17 at Bond Park’s Sertoma Amphitheatre, adults and kids are invited to Applause! Cary Youth Theatre’s production of Dracula, the spell-binding dramatization associated with the world’s most famous vampire. Shows begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $10 (adults), $8 (seniors and students), and $5 (children 5 and younger). All tickets at the door are $10. Tickets are available at the Herbert C. Young Community Center Box Office (noon-6 p.m., Monday-Friday) and through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com. In case any of the performances are cancelled, a performance will be added on Sunday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sertoma Amphitheatre. Tickets for any cancelled performance will be honored at any other performance as well as the Sunday rain date. For updated performance information, please call (919) 465-4792.

The following weekend, kids are invited to the Town’s “Tricks & Treats Halloween Bash” on Saturday, October 24 at the Herbert C. Young Community Center. From 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., guests can enter the lower door for $1/person to enjoy carnival games hosted by the Cary Teen Council. From 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Applause!’s Fright School will present Cary’s 4th annual Haunted House; admission is $1/person, and the entrance will be through the main door. All proceeds go to the Cary Teen Council.

On Halloween night, Cary is bringing back the free Safe N Sane Halloween Celebration at Cary Towne Center for ages 15 and under. Kids can trick or treat throughout the mall. “Not so scary” storytelling for younger trick or treaters kicks off at 5:30 p.m. followed by trick or treating at mall stores at 6 p.m., and the fun continues with a host of games and contests. After the trick or treating begins, secret judges will select among “trick or treaters” to participate in the costume contest finals at 7 p.m. at the mall’s Center stage.

For horror movie lovers, Koka Booth Amphitheatre is offering its REEL-LY SCARY Halloween movie series from October 26–30 at 7 p.m. nightly. The towering pines at the Booth provide the perfect setting for spine-tingling chills as patrons thrill to some of the most frightening classics on the big screen. For $3, patrons can bring a blanket or chair as the spacious lawn at Booth Amphitheatre is transformed in to an outdoor movie theatre; kids under 12 are free. For a complete schedule, visit www.boothamphitheatre.com.

“Make plans now to bring the family out to these exciting events. Each year, the Town is pleased to host safe and exciting programs for families to enjoy,” said Marketing Specialist Leda Isenhour.

As part of their ongoing efforts to increase safety, Cary Police are also conducting annual Halloween safety talks at all Cary daycare centers now through October 30.
