Cary's A-Team Hits the Streets with Plows

IT’S ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL IN CARY

Crews responding to slick spots as needed

 

CARY , NC With most roads throughout the community in good shape, the Town of Cary has shut down most of its large-scale snow assault operations and is hitting cold spots on a case-by-case basis.  Citizens are encouraged to report significant slick spots in Cary by calling (919) 469-4090; please do not call 911.

 

Based on the continued cold temperatures forecasted for the area, drivers are encourage to use extreme caution and be on the lookout for black ice, especially tonight and tomorrow morning.  Town crews will continue to monitor Cary roads and hit cold spots with sand and salt until the threat is substantially eliminated.

 

“Once again our staff has done a great job handling the impacts of yet another winter storm,” said Interim Town Manager Ben Shivar.  “We all appreciate their efforts, including the time they have to spend away from their families in order to keep Cary moving.”

 

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

There have been six crashes reported in Cary during this winter storm, none with serious injuries.

 

TRASH COLLECTION

Crews plan to collect garbage, recycling, and yard waste on Tuesday according to normal schedule; please have materials to the curb no later than 7 a.m.

 

OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS

While Town Hall offices are open on regular schedule today, the following evening meetings are cancelled:  Information Services Advisory Board; Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Advisory Board. 

 

Town of Cary parks, recreation, and cultural resources (PRCR) programs, classes and sports activities are cancelled through noon Tuesday, March 3.  PRCR facilities will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2.  For more information call 469-4061.  A decision regarding Tuesday afternoon programs will be made by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3.  Participants should call the facility in which the program is scheduled for an update.  Cary Tennis Park and Sk8-Cary will adhere to normal inclement weather procedures, so call for an update before planning to visit these facilities.

 

C-Tran transit fixed route and door-to-door services within ¾ mile of fixed routes are operating today until 6 p.m.   All transit services should return to normal operations on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.   Call (919) 481-2020 to confirm that the service you are interested in is available.

CARY’S A-TEAM HITS THE STREETS WITH PLOWS

Motorists encouraged to delay driving as long as possible

 

 

CARY, NC – With several inches of snow on the ground and more falling, the Town of Cary’s Snow Fighters are out in full force plowing the community’s main roads.   Please do not park on streets so that plows and other Town equipment can service the area. There have been two storm-related traffic accidents reported thus far in Cary, neither with serious injuries.

 

“Despite the great job our folks are doing with the plows, the roads are very slick, and we’re encouraging everyone to stay put this morning for as long as they can,” said Public Works Director Mike Bajorek.

 

The Town’s 180 A-Team Snow Fighters have 58 pieces of snow-fighting equipment available to clear Cary’s 450 miles of roads, about 100 miles of which are state-maintained roads.  The Town also has 2,500 tons of sand/salt mix on hand along with an additional 700 tons of pure salt available.  Crew’s clear thoroughfares first followed by primary roads in subdivisions, then through-streets in subdivisions, and then cul-de-sacs.  The Town does not clear private parking lots, including those in apartment and condominium complexes or at businesses.

Citizens are reminded of the following tips during inclement weather:

  • Do not attempt to deal with downed limbs or trees on a street or sidewalk on your own as they may be tangled in live power lines; instead, call the Town at (919) 469-4090.
  • Do not call 911 unless there is an emergency posing an immediate threat to life, health, or property.  All non-emergency snow calls should be placed to (919) 469-4090. 
  • Decisions regarding canceling parks, recreation, and cultural programs are generally made by about 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.  Call (919) 469-4061 for updates.
  • C-Tran fixed route and door-to-door transit services run on schedule for as long as doing so is deemed safe.  Riders are encouraged to call C-Tran directly at (919) 481-2020 for updates.  
  • Be neighborly.  Check on neighbors to make sure that everyone is OK.
  • Stay indoors during severe winter weather. If you do decide to venture out—whether walking or driving—let folks know when and where you are going so that they can contact emergency officials should you fail to reach your destination. Take a cell phone just in case.

CARY ’S A-Team prepareD FOR WINTRY WEATHER

 

CARY , NC With weather forecasters calling for the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday night, the Town of Cary ’s A‑Team is fully prepared should wintry weather affect the Cary community.  Crews spent today ensuring that the plowing equipment is ready to go and that emergency staff assignments are set should wintry weather conditions occur.

 

“We will closely monitor weather conditions this weekend and will be ready to respond as conditions change,” said Town of Cary Public Works Director Mike Bajorek .
