Cary to Dedicate the William B. Coleman Jr. Field at USA Baseball National Training Complex

Dedication honors former Cary Town Manager Bill Coleman

CARY, NC – Everyone is invited be a part of history and celebrate the dedication of the “William B. Coleman, Jr. Field” in honor of former Cary Town Manager Bill Coleman at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, 200 Brooks Park Lane in Cary; the field dedication ceremony begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 29, followed by the Team USA versus Team Canada game at 7:30 p.m.  Gates open at 6:30 p.m.   Tickets for the dedication and game are $5 per person and can be purchased online at www.usabaseball.com or at the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources office at Cary Town Hall, 316 North Academy St.  At their regular meeting on October 16, 2008, the Cary Town Council officially named the field in honor of Coleman for his more than 30 years of public service and for his love of baseball.

 

A native of Red Springs, NC, Coleman served as the Chatham County Manager as well as the Town Manager for Pittsboro and Southern Pines, NC.  He came to Cary in 1988 as the Assistant Town Manager and served as Cary's CEO until October 2008.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wake Forest University and a Master of Public Affairs from North Carolina State University.  He is also a graduate of the Municipal and County Administration Course from the School of Government at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and he has received several awards for his work in community service, including being named the Citizen of the Year by the Cary Chamber of Commerce and Outstanding Administrative Alumnus from NC State.

 

The Coleman Field features spectator seating for 1,754 people and additional grass seating for approximately 250 people.  Also, the stadium field has a press box that includes two suites, an official scorer’s room, a sound room and press row.  Located inside the Town’s Thomas Brooks Park, the National Training Complex is home to USA Baseball, the national governing body for baseball in the United States as part of the U.S. Olympic Committee and the International Baseball Federation.
