Nominate Outstanding Volunteers for PRCR Volunteer Awards
Two new awards for 2010

CARY, NC – They coach youth athletics, work at special events, maintain trails and more, and the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department (PRCR) is seeking nominations to recognize these outstanding volunteers now through Friday, January 15, 2010. Nominations are being accepted for the following awards that recognize PRCR volunteers:
Partner Organization of the Year (new for 2010) – is presented to a non-profit, civic, school, club, or other organization that has partnered with the PRCR Department to help the department achieve its mission and goals; contributes to the enhancement of life in Cary; and has made a significant impact on the quality of life for Cary’s citizens.
Events Volunteer Award (new for 2010) – is presented to an individual who has worked to provide support to one (or more) of the many special events that are produced by PRCR. This award recognizes an individual who has displayed extraordinary commitment to making the Department’s special events shine in any area (cultural arts, athletics, etc.).
The Don Smith Award – recognizes a volunteer in the Town's athletics programs who demonstrates leadership as well as promotes skill development, sportsmanship, participation and fun.
The Distinguished New Coach Award – recognizes a volunteer who has coached less than five years with the Town of Cary and demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with players, parents, and staff, brings in new ideas, and promotes the Athletics Division philosophy.
The Teen Award – is given to a deserving member of Cary's Teen Council who demonstrates an understanding of leadership qualities as they relate to representing the youth of Cary and shows a strong interest in community service and volunteerism.
The Cultural Arts Award – is presented to an individual who lends leadership and support to all aspects of the Town's arts programs, including literary and visual arts, multi-cultural arts awareness and historic appreciation.
The Seniors Impacting Seniors Award – is presented to a deserving volunteer involved with programs and activities that positively impact the lives of their fellow seniors.
The Parks and Trails Award – recognizes an individual with strong leadership and effective organizational skills, is dedicated to the improvement and advancement of Cary’s greenway and trails system, who advocates nature conservation and education and displays a strong interest in making the public aware of Cary’s greenway program, parks and other natural resource issues.
The Herb Young Award – is given to a volunteer with overall outstanding service, leadership, and support for the staff and programs of the Town of Cary's PRCR Department.
Nomination forms are available at all PRCR staffed facilities and must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010.
