Cary Police File Ethnic Intimidation Petitions Against Two Juveniles in Recent Vandalisms

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department filed petitions against two Cary boys, ages 12 and 13, on July 31 for Ethnic Intimidation and Damage to Property following racially-charged vandalism at several businesses on July 29, 2009, near Cary Towne Boulevard and Southeast Maynard Road. At approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 29, the two boys allegedly sprayed racially-charged graffiti on the back of businesses at 682, 684 and 686 Cary Towne Boulevard as well as at On the Border, 1102 Walnut St. , and Eye Care Center , 720 Southeast Maynard Road .
“In Cary , we embrace and are strengthened by our community’s diversity, and we are committed to creating and maintaining an environment where our citizens feel safe and welcome” said Police Chief Pat Bazemore. “We hope that parents will use this unfortunate incident to help reinforce with their children the importance of respecting every individual, regardless of their differences.”
