2009-2010 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Opens on Cary's Town Hall Campus

Town of Cary and Cary Visual Art collaborate on 3-dimensional exhibit

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary and Cary Visual Art, Inc. (CVA) are pleased to announce the opening of the 2009 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition on Cary’s Town Hall Campus in downtown Cary on Friday, August 14, 2009; the exhibition features ten 3-dimensional sculptural works of art by artists from North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. The artists will install their works between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, and the works will be displayed through June 25, 2010 .

Linda Dougherty, juror of the exhibit and Chief Curator and Curator of Contemporary Art for the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh , selected the following ten works for the show:

  • West, by Jonathan Bowling
  • Interstellar Object, by Robert Coon
  • Chalice, by Alvin Frega
  • Cosmological Principle, by Hanna Jubran
  • Tree, by Gretchen Lothrop
  • Crossing, by Dale McEntire
  • Mute, by Duke Oursler
  • Tidal Sand, by IlaSahai Prouty
  • Self Portrait, by Adam Walls

“We look forward to hosting CVA's temporary sculpture exhibition on the Town Hall campus,” said Public Art Coordinator Denise Dickens. “This is the perfect opportunity to see current artistic trends. Take a self-guided tour using our free illustrated brochure available inside Town Hall or just drop by anytime to experience this unique exhibition on your own.”

“The works selected for this year's CVA Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition exemplify the diverse range of media and subject matter found in contemporary sculpture today,” said juror Linda Dougherty. “Each of the ten sculptures on view has its own unique characteristics and individual power, but the exhibition also provides an opportunity to see common threads among these works.

Each of the ten artists will receive a $1,000 stipend. Participants are competing for a $5,000 Best-of-Show prize that will be announced at the 2009 Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival.
