FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 11, 2008

CARY , NC Six of the Triangle’s most talented brass ensembles will entertain Triangle listeners at the 7th Annual “Brass at Bond” on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Cary ’s Fred G. Bond Metro Park , 801 High House Road .   St. Francis Brass Band, A Touch of Brass Quintet, Ascension Trombone Choir, Tuba-licious, Herding Cats ten-tet, and Triangle Brass Band will perform during the free concert as part of the Town’s Annual Fall Sertoma Series that features the best in live, outdoor entertainment.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to hear some of our community’s finest musicians,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.  “Bring the entire family for a nice outing in the great outdoors at Cary ’s Bond Park.”

Formed in 2002 with 8 members, the St. Francis Brass Band players come from all walks of life – doctors, lawyers, engineers, computer gurus, and school band directors.  Many of them were high school band players who took many years off before picking up a horn again. Some of the seven members of A Touch of Brass can be heard playing Dixieland music weekly outside in downtown Raleigh on Saturday mornings. Other members have played for the Saint Francis and Triangle Brass Bands and the Triangle Wind Ensemble.

Founded in Cary , The Ascension Trombone Choir features 16-20 trombone players.  The concert will also feature Tuba-licious, a tuba/euphonium ensemble from Winston-Salem .

Herding Cats takes its name from the difficulty of scheduling rehearsals for ten active musicians. The members of the ensemble come from across the Triangle and they hold day jobs, in addition to busy schedules of solo and ensemble performances.

The Triangle Brass Band is a group of thirty-five brass and percussion performers drawn from the Research Triangle Park area.  Members of the Band are selected by audition, and come from a variety of careers, including school band directors, college faculty, lawyers, computer programmers, engineers, medical personnel and contractors.

In the event of inclement weather, concert updates will be available by calling (919) 469-3969.

Music lovers are also invited to the remaining performances in the Fall Sertoma Series, including Cary Town Band on Friday, September 26, 7:30 p.m. and Opera Carolina presents Little Red’s Most Unusual Day on Saturday, October 4, 3 p.m.   Also, the Great Big One concert that was postponed because of Tropical Storm Hanna has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 5 at 3 p.m.
