Cary Police Recover Vehicle Stolen by Murder Suspect

CARY, NC – Cary police have recovered the vehicle stolen by a man wanted in the murder of Maria Teresa Herrera-Diaz, 29, of 102 Dunhagan Place in Cary. Arnulfo Barron Cobos, 45, fled the residence in the vehicle the morning of her murder on September 6, 2008. Arrest warrants for felony murder and felony larceny of a motor vehicle were issued for Cobos, whose whereabouts have since been unknown.
The vehicle, a 2004 silver Saturn L-300, was recovered on Boylin Road in Anson County, NC by the Anson County Sheriff's Office. Located off of the roadway, the vehicle was abandoned in operable condition with the keys inside. It appears the vehicle may have been left at the location for an extended period of time.
“We are continuing to actively investigate this tragic crime and ask anyone with any information about Mr. Cobos or his whereabouts to please call the Cary Police Department,” said Cary Police Chief Pat Bazemore.
Cobos is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches or 5 feet 7 inches tall, and 200 pounds. At the time of the murder, he also had a goatee.
Herrera-Diaz’s body was discovered by her roommates shortly after 8 a.m. on Sept. 6. Cobos, Herrera-Diaz’s common law husband who also lived in the home, left the residence between the hours of 4:15 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. but did not report to work as scheduled. He never returned back to the home.
