CARY , NC The world’s first Hindi, a capella ensemble – Penn Masala – is back in Cary to open the Town’s Annual Marvelous music Series on Saturday, October 18, 2008 , at 7:30 p.m. at the Herbert C. Penn Masala first wowed audiences in Cary in 2003 with their appearance at the annual Diwali celebration.  Formed in 1996 by students at the University of Pennsylvania , the members fuse South Asian music with a Western musical style in original song formats. After breakthrough performances in the late nineties, the group took the nation by storm and went on to perform for sold-out crowds in cities such as New York , Los Angeles , Chicago , San Francisco , and Houston . During the last decade, Penn Masala has spread the popularity of Hindi a cappella music abroad by performing in London , Toronto and India . In addition to their extensive tour schedule, Penn Masala has been featured in the soundtrack of American Desi and has released five full-length albums.

“In light of the tremendous attendance at our recent Diwali festival, this concert is the perfect opportunity to experience more of the Hindi culture through great musical entertainment,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.
