Arrests expected to clear 37 cases involving 50 victims

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary Police Department has arrested and charged four suspects who may be linked to 37 larceny and breaking and entering cases that have occurred in Cary since November 2007; as many as 50 victims are believed to be involved with the cases.  Darryl Dunbar of 306 Middleton Avenue in Cary was arrested and charged with four counts each of felony breaking and entering motor vehicles, obtaining property by false pretenses, felony larceny and felony possession of stolen property, and two counts of felony breaking and entering a building, all on June 9, 2008 .  Nicolas Whitehead, address unknown, and Yimmy Antonio Barrera of 218 York Street in Cary , were arrested and charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, and two counts of felony larceny.  Timothy William Creasy of 113 Deer Valley Drive in Cary was arrested and charged with three counts of felony breaking and entering, and three counts of felony larceny.

“The Cary Police Department’s primary objective is to ensure the safety and well-being of those who live in or are visiting our Town.  It is rewarding to have apprehended these four suspects who are responsible for such an extensive list of crimes,” said Captain Mike Williams of the Cary Police Department.

Police arrested Dunbar following a series of larcenies from motor vehicles in the Taylor ’s Pond and Kingswood subdivisions on June 8 and 9, 2008.  Victims reported cash, credit cards, GPS units, and financial information were taken from their vehicles.  As police continued the investigation it was discovered Dunbar was also involved in two residential burglaries in the North Harrison area.   Dunbar is allegedly linked to a total of four cases involving 15 victims.

Whitehead and Barrera were charged following a home burglary, in which the same home was broken into twice in a 25 day period in March and April 2008.  Electronic items and cash were stolen from the home; the attempted second burglary was interrupted when the homeowner awoke, causing the suspects to flee.  Barrera is linked to the two residential burglaries, and Whitehead is a suspect in as many as 17 commercial and residential burglaries occurring in Cary from November 2007 through May 2008.

Creasy is linked to as many as 16 residential burglaries in the Davis Drive and Highway 55 area.  The burglaries occurred from March 2008 through June 2008.

The maximum fine for each count of each crime is as follows: felonious breaking and entering motor vehicle, 10 months; felonious breaking and entering a building, 20 months; obtaining property by false pretenses, 20 months, felonious larceny, 20 months, and felonious possession of stolen property, 20 months.

Dunbar , Whitehead and Creasy are currently in the Wake County Public Safety Center and are being held on $68,000, $20,000 and $11,000 bonds, respectively.  Barrera was released on June 25, 2008 .

To reduce the possibility of becoming a property crime victim, Town of Cary Police Department offers the following tips:

• Keep doors in your home closed and locked including your garage doors. An open door is an invitation.

• Be a good neighbor and alert police to any unusual activity in your neighborhood.

• Do not leave valuables or cash in your car. If you must leave items in the car, lock them in the trunk. If you have folding rear seats, make sure those are also locked.
