Live Performance of Beauty and the Beast on Cary Stage This Weekend
Applause! Cary Youth Theatre presents annual spring production
CARY
In this adaptation, Beauty must leave her beloved home and family and enter a shadowy castle filled with magical servants obedient to their beastly master. As Beauty and her Beast exist together in this mysterious place, she slowly begins to look beyond the Beast’s ugliness and understand the transforming power of love.
“Come out and celebrate the beauty of love and the beauty of nature at Bond Park in this entertaining performance of an endearing classic,” said Youth Theatre Coordinator Rachel Green. “Each year, our community’s most talented youth put on a spectacular performance.” Green added that this year’s director is Carnessa Ottelin, who received her MFA in directing from UNC-Greensboro; the technical director is Kalen Larson, assistant production manager for PlayMakers Repertory Company.
Since 1999, Applause! productions have been introducing the world of theatre, performance and production to first-time performers, designers and stagehands, and giving more advanced participants a chance to further develop their skills and interests. The productions also nurture creativity and build confidence in young people. In addition to two annual mainstage productions, Applause! offers process-oriented theatre classes, camps and workshops staffed by professional actors, designers, directors and teachers.
Applause! will celebrate their 10th anniversary season with productions in fall 2008 and spring 2009.
In case of inclement weather, information will be available at (919) 465-4792.
