Cary , NC --On Saturday September 13, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Cary Community Foundation, the Town of Cary and Fit & Able Productions, Inc. are bringing many wonderful community groups together that make Cary one of the "Best Places to Live". Celebrate Cary at Sunset, to be held at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, is a FREE family destination event with non-stop entertainment, activities for kids, exhibits for adults, as well as family fitness fun for everyone.

The Cary Community Foundation strives to facilitate the success of non-profit organizations that provide crucial services to the community.  Celebrate Cary at Sunset was initiated to provide non-profits an avenue to connect with the community. “I am so excited we have the chance to showcase many of our Cary nonprofit organizations at this community wide event. This is an opportunity for our citizens to learn more about volunteerism, how to take advantage of these services, or how to participate as a volunteer”, says Sheila Ogle, Cary Community Foundation Board President.

In an effort to reach out to the youth in the area Celebrate Cary promises to offer a prime opportunity for students to meet with 40 non-profit agencies ranging from medical oriented initiatives to pet adoption. In this way, Celebrate Cary will serve as a networking opportunity for students to arrange volunteering and internship opportunities.  These opportunities could potentially help make career choices or beef up college admission or National Honor Society applications.

Entertainment will be provided by talented artists including dancers, musicians actors and  singers.  "We are especially excited about our guest emcee's, Snoopy and Charlie Brown from Cary Player's upcoming production of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown," said Lyman Collins, Cary 's Cultural Arts Manager.  The event will also feature artists, photographers, the cast from Applause! Cary Youth Theatre's "School House Rock, " Carolina Rail Hawk Dance Teams, NCSU Pipes & Drums, Dancers Pointe Academy, Infinity Ballet, Raleigh City Strut Dance Company at City Ballet, Right Moves Dance Academy , Liam Turnage (5 year old drumming wonder), Swoops the mascot of the Carolina Rail Hawks and Vocal Motion, the SAS Show Choir.

One of the many reasons to celebrate Cary is that it is all about families and children.  Cary companies and groups will be providing a wide variety of youth activities.  These will be fun, family oriented and FREE.   Kids can do Balloon Art, Chalk the Walk, Self Portraits, Face Painting, Tumbling, Mock Voters' Registration & Election Education, MAKE IT & TAKE IT Crafts, Science demonstrations, Kids Fitness Testing, Hair Braiding/Beading, Story Time with the Cookie Mouse, Bearded Dragon presentation or take a nature walk along the lake with their family.

Cary is one of North Carolina 's most active towns gaining recognition as a "Fit Community."    Any celebration of Cary would not be complete without a family fitness event and Celebrate Cary at Sunset has two!  Becky Schmidt, Booth Amphitheatre General Manager is excited about the Celebration Races. "Taking part in a leisurely run around the beautiful Symphony Lake at sunset will be a unique and fun experience to share with family and friends."   For families who prefer short distances the CARY 7000 may be a good fit.   Go easy or go hard but get up and GO!   Following the CARY 7000 is the Cary Sunset 5K.  Both events are designed for participants of all skill levels and for anyone looking for a good time on the move. Groups are invited to sign up as a team for a small team fee. To register on line go to www.insideoutsports.com.

A few very special exhibits include the Cary Fire Department’s Ladder Truck #1, Cary Police Department vehicles, the Wake County Library Systems Book mobile and Jelly Beans Skate Car.  An important activity for all ages is the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC food drive.  Collection barrels will be available for the donation of non-perishable food in honor of HUNGER AWARENESS MONTH.

With a host of activities for the entire family Triangle residents are encouraged to come celebrate one of the towns that make North Carolina special.
