TRANSIT TO KICK OFF THE ANNUAL FALL SERTOMA SERIES IN CARY

Cary Town Band opens their 20th season as part of the Series

CARY, NC – The new and dynamic a cappella quartet, Transit, and the great outdoors will make the perfect combination for opening the Town of Cary’s 2007-2008 Fall Sertoma Series on Saturday, September 8 at 3 p.m. at the Sertoma Amphitheatre inside Bond Park, 801 High House Road.  The group’s melodious voices will set the stage for four more concerts during yet another season of the best in free, live, and outdoor entertainment at Sertoma Amphitheatre.

Formed in 2005, Transit emphasizes engaging live performances, inspiring recordings, and continual innovation of their art form. From beautiful ballads to soul-shaking funk, Transit performs a wide variety of music sure to please even the most eclectic audience.

“Don’t miss your chance to catch the start of what is sure to be an exciting season,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.  “As temperatures begin to cool down, these concerts are the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Sertoma Amphitheatre and take in some of the area’s most talented artists.”

This season will also spotlight one of the Town’s hallmarks – the Cary Town Band – on Friday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m.  Directed by Dr. James R. Hammerle, the band plays music reminiscent of the turn of the century bands led by Sousa, Goldman, and others who popularized band concerts all over America .  In addition, the band will perform during a concert sponsored by the Town in recognition of their 20th anniversary on Saturday, November 17 at the Cary Senior Center Ballroom, 801 High House Road .

On September 16, music lovers are invited back to Sertoma Amphitheatre to enjoy Blues music and its African-roots through the rich harmonies and spirit of world traveling blues balladeer, Eric Bibb, and the 21-string kora playing of Teli Shabu and his sister, balaphonist Mabinti Shabu.

The fourth performance of the Series on October 14 will feature Max and the INDEXICON, a play that takes you on a magical adventure through time, space and the imagination. Max gets a strange and marvelous gift – an INDEXICON. The directions are puzzling: "Insert an object into the INDEXICON and be prepared for your world to change." His curiosity mounting, Max places one object after another into the INDEXICON. Each object takes him on a thrilling adventure, including a trip on the Underground Railroad with Harriet Tubman, an opportunity to explore Mars, and more!

Then on October 20, everyone is invited to celebrate the sounds of North Carolina ’s most innovative brass ensembles at “Brass at Bond”.  The afternoon will include the Herding Cats Ten-tet, Just Mere Horns, Brass-on-the-Slide, St. Francis Brass Band and more.  Bring your blanket and a picnic, and enjoy the sounds of Brass at Bond!

The Sertoma Amphitheatre, nestled away inside Bond Park, is one of Cary ’s best-kept secrets. This intimate, 350-seat amphitheatre is a perfect setting for fall concerts. The shade trees, covered stage, and theatre-style seating for the audience make it comfortable to enjoy music in a beautiful outdoor setting.
