CARY POLICE SEEK HELP IDENTIFYING THE OWNERS OF 116 STOLEN POWER TOOLS

CARY, NC – A month after 116 power tools were seized from a home during a drug arrest, Cary Police are still trying to re-connect the tools with their rightful owners and are asking persons with missing power tools to contact the Police Department at (919) 380-2772 or 319-4516.  Numerous saws, drills, sump pumps, landscaping equipment and other power tools have been in police custody since police recovered the tools in July during a search warrant on Carlos Fernandez Mejia, 33, of 3425 Lynnford Drive in Apex.

On July 6, 2007 , Mejia was arrested and charged for crimes that occurred in Cary , including Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Maintaining a dwelling for sale.  Additional charges are pending related to the stolen items.

“We would like to return these items to their rightful owners as soon as possible, which is why we’re asking anyone who may be missing tools to come forward,” said Capt. Dave Wulff.  “We will continue to work with the public to help prevent thefts and put criminals behind bars that commit such acts.”

Wulff added that there were initially 119 unidentified tools, but Police were able to return three tools to their rightful owners.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes.  If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E) or contact Captain Dave Wulff at (919) 469-4017; you may also visit www.carycrimestoppers.net.  All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
