CARY POLICE SEEK HELP IN identifying CREDIT CARD THEFT SUSPECT

 

CARY, NC –Cary Police are asking for your help in identifying a suspect that may be linked to a string of vehicle break-ins and credit card thefts that have been occurring in Cary since October 4, 2002.  The latest incident occurred on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:44 a.m. when the suspect stole three credit cards and a Driver’s License from a wallet owned by the victim – Steven Talbert of Cary .  The wallet was located in Talbert’s truck parked at the YMCA, 101 YMCA Dr .  The suspect then went to Target, 2021 Walnut St , as shown here and used the victim’s Visa card to make a purchase for an undisclosed amount.

 

The suspect is described as a white male, 35-45 years old, 5 feet 10 inches-6 feet 1 inches tall, 180-210 pounds with facial stubble, black hair and a bald spot.  He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve dress shirt and black slacks. 

 

Police believe the suspect may be linked to at least six other incidents that have occurred at or near the YMCA since 2002, including the following cases:

  • October 4, 2002 , noon-3:45 p.m., Kildaire Racquet Club, 162 Peeble Creek Dr. ; 1994 Dodge Intrepid broken into; credit cards stolen and used

  • July 24, 2003 , 10:15 a.m.-12:19 p.m. , Beyond Fitness, 101 New Waverly Place; 1996 Honda Accord broken into; credit cards stolen and used

  • September 1, 2004 , 2 p.m. - 6:40 p.m. , YMCA, 101 YMCA Dr. ; 1998 Honda Civic broken into; credit cards stolen and used 

  • February 7, 2005 , 8 a.m.-12:37 p.m. , YMCA, 101 YMCA Dr. ; 2000 Honda Accord broken into; credit cards stolen and used

  • June 2, 2005 , 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. , Spa Health Club, 107 Edinburgh South Dr. ; credit cards taken from the wallet of a club member; credit cards used at various locations 

  • June 3, 2005, 9:39 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Waverly Place Shopping Center, 206 New Waverly Place; credit cards taken from a motor vehicle and used at various locations

“We encourage everyone to safeguard their information by keeping a copy of all credit card numbers and contact numbers in case the cards are ever stolen,” said Sergeant Randy Byrd.  “In addition, it is important to continuously monitor your credit report for any fraudulent activity.”
