COPPER THIEVES LAND BEHIND BARS FOLLOWING ARRESTS BY CARY POLICE

Duo caught red-handed at new construction home site

CARY, NC – Cary Police have arrested Osffman Durante Romo, 28, of 311 Lasalle St., Durham and Riverol Santos Rojas, 27, of 2021 Chapel Hill Road, Durham after the two were caught stealing copper wiring and tubing from a new home construction site located in the 600 block of Thomaston Hill Court on Thursday, June 14.   Shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, an anonymous caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area; Cary Police immediately responded and apprehended the suspects after observing them removing the copper.

The two were also arrested for stealing copper from a nearby, vacant new home the same night at 2828 Cameron Pond Drive .  Police are investigating additional incidences of copper theft at the Cameron Pond Drive residence, including one that occurred on May 24.

“Thanks to the anonymous tip and our prompt response, we were able to catch the suspects in the act,” said Capt. Dave Wulff.  “As these arrests show, we will not tolerate these or any type of crime that jeopardizes property in our community.”

Cary Police charged Romo and Rojas with two counts each of Felonious Larceny from Permitted Construction Site – a felony which carries 3-12 months in jail per count.  Also, they were both charged with one count of Conspiracy, which carries a maximum penalty of 120 days in prison.

The suspects are being held at the Wake County Public Safety Center on a $15,000 bond each.
