TOWN OF
CARY
EXPANDS RECYCLING PROGRAM TO INCLUDE MORE PLASTIC BOTTLES AND
TUB-SHAPED CONTAINERS
Citizens can
begin recycling plastics labeled #1-7 today in Cary
CARY
,
NC
– As
part of its ongoing commitment to protect and preserve the environment, the Town
of
Cary
is offering more opportunities for residents to
recycle by now accepting plastics labeled #1-7 for
recycling in both bottle and tub shapes, including Cool Whip tubs,
butter/margarine tubs, yogurt cups, and oversized laundry detergent containers.
Citizens
can now place items in their curbside recycling bin for collection or take the
items to the Citizen’s
Convenience
Center
,
313
North Dixon Ave.
, for drop-off recycling.
Until now, the Cary Recycles program only
accepted plastics labeled #1, 2, 5 and 7 for recycling based on the bottle shape
(neck had to be smaller than the base).
“We’re pleased to offer our citizens these new
options for recycling,” said Conservation Education Specialist Srijana
Guilford. “In
Cary
, we take
pride in the environmental health of our community, and we appreciate the work
our citizens do each day in helping ensure a cleaner tomorrow.”
Guilford
added that
the enhancement to the Cary Recycles program does not include lids, take out
(“clam shell”) containers, frozen entrée trays and plastic bags.
Implemented in 1989,
Cary
’s
award-winning recycling program is just one example of how the Town of
Cary
leads the
state in preserving and protecting natural resources.
On average,
Cary
residents
recycle about 7,900 tons of material each year, which is .30 tons per
participating household. This is
compared to the national average of .23 tons per household.
