CARY , NC – Four newly elected members of the Cary Town Council will be sworn in tonight during the Cary Town Council’s regular meeting at Cary Town Hall, 316 N. Academy St. at 6:30 p.m.  Joining existing Council members Jack Smith, Jennifer Robinson, and Julie Robison following the oaths of office will be:

  • Harold Weinbrecht, Jr. – Mayor

  • Don Frantz – District B

  • Gale Adcock – District D

  • Ervin F. Portman – At-large

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of Cary during the next four years,” said Harold Weinbrecht, 51, of Windspring Court .  “I believe the intelligent and engaged citizens of Cary combined with a collaborative Council will create innovative solutions to many of Cary ’s problems.”  A resident of Cary for 38 years, Weinbrecht became active in politics in 1997 when he helped start the Web site, Citizens for Balanced Growth. He was appointed to the Town’s Information Services Advisory Board as well as the Planning and Zoning Board before being elected in 1999 as an At-Large Council member.  He and his wife, Belinda, have two children.

One of Weinbrecht’s first initiatives as Mayor includes hosting an online journal to communicate with citizens.  While an independent initiative, the Town will offer links to Weinbrecht’s as well as any of the other council member’s journals from their individual Council Web pages at www.townofcary.org.

"I look forward to working with our citizens, business community, and town staff in making our town a better place for all to live, work, and raise a family. Let's get to work!" said Don Frantz, 36, of East Cornwall Road .  Frantz has lived in Cary for the past 15 years.  In addition to being the owner of Frantz Automotive Center in Cary , Frantz is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business owners and the Cary Chamber of Commerce.  Also, he has served on the Town’s Planning & Zoning Board as well as the Citizen Budget Review Commission.  He and his wife, Lisa, have six children.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with six such well-informed and dedicated individuals on the Town Council,” said Gale Adcock, 53, of Legault Drive .  Adcock has been a Cary resident for 14 years and has been very active on numerous community boards, including the N.C. Board of Nursing, N.C. Center for Nursing, Legislative Study Commission on Access to Health Insurance and the N.C. Health Planning Commission.  She and her husband, Kevin, have two children.

“I am encouraged that the voters have ratified the council’s decision to appoint me earlier this year to represent all of Cary ," said Erv Portman, 52, of Fern Bluff Way .  Portman was previously serving as the At-Large Council member after being appointed in February 2007 to fill the seat vacated by previous Council member Mike Joyce.  “The election was a great chance to meet and hear from voters what they want for the future of our town. I will work hard to represent them and keep Cary one of the best places in the nation to live, work and raise a family.”   Portman has served on the Town’s Planning and Zoning Board as well as the Mayors’ Task Force on Student Assignment.   He and his wife, Susan, have four children and four grandchildren.
