GRAMMY WINNING CHESTNUT BRASS TO WARM THE HEARTS OF LISTENERS IN CARY THIS WEEKEND

Workshop to precede concert

CARY, NC – The warm, full sounds of the Chestnut Brass Company are coming to town just in time for the holidays at Cary’s Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave. on Sunday, December 9. Tickets are still available to see this talented ensemble for $18 (adults), $16 (seniors 55 and older), and $15 (children 12 and under) at the Community Center or at Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or (919) 834-4000.

As curators of the sounds of ancient and antique brasses, the Chestnut Brass Company has been at the forefront of the period-instrument revival with performances on cornetti, sacbuts, keyed bugles and saxhorns. The quintet continues to collect antique brass instruments and to research the literature and performance practice of these instruments.

The Grammy winning Chestnut Brass Company has earned international acclaim for brilliant performances on modern and historical brass instruments. Since beginning as a street band in Philadelphia in 1977, they have performed in North and South America, Europe, the Caribbean and Asia.

“This concert is a perfect way to celebrate the holiday season,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Bunch.

Prior to Sunday’s concert, Chestnut Brass will offer a workshop at 3 p.m. for those interested in a more in-depth experience of brass instruments. For more information on the workshop, call (919) 462-3969.
