CARY FIRES UP FOR THREE-DAY FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION

Events include fireworks, games & special treat for seniors

 

CARY , NC Beginning Tuesday, July 3, the Town of Cary will kickoff three fun-filled days of patriotic activities at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park , 801 High House Road , including the Triangle’s best fireworks display on July 4th at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park Theatre, music, food, contests, and games are just a few of the family-friendly highlights of the Town of Cary ’s annual festivities to commemorate Independence Day.

 

On Tuesday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sertoma Amphitheatre, the Applause! Cary Youth Theatre will present “Faces of Freedom, a comical and touching play that tells the stories of young immigrants to America who, despite their differences, are united in their search for freedom.  Following the play at 7:30 p.m. , the Cary Town Band will entertain audiences with old time patriotic music. 

 

“Everyone is invited to join us for yet another joyous Fourth of July celebration,” said Marketing Specialist Leda Isenhour.  “These events are the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate our nation’s freedom.”

 

For the second year in a row, guests are invited to show off their freedom of expression in the “Parade in the Park” that will be held on July 4 in Bond Park.  Beginning at 9 a.m. , participants will decorate their own bikes, tricycles, strollers, wagons, scooters, or battery-powered children’s automobiles at the Kiwanis Shelter and then ride in the parade that begins at 10 a.m. ; prizes will be awarded for the most extraordinary displays. 

 

The complete schedule for the Bond Park event on the Fourth of July is as follows:

 

8-10 a.m.

Fishing Tournament

9-10 a.m.

Decorating Preparations for Parade (Kiwanis Shelter)

10-10:30 a.m.

Freedom of Expression Parade in the Park” (Begin at Kiwanis)

10:30-11 a.m.

Applause! Cary Youth Theatre – “Faces of Freedom” (Boathouse)

11 a.m. -3 p.m.

Donut Eating Contest, Lakeside Olympics, Watermelon Eating Contest, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, Water Balloon Toss, Water Balloon Volleyball (age groups: 0-10, 11-17, and 18+)

 

After the contests end, guests are invited to travel to Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway to enjoy the North Carolina Symphony and the Cary Town Band.  Guests will also have the opportunity to stop by one of the booths and write a message for our nation’s troops serving abroad.  The complete line-up is as follows: 

 

3 p.m.              Gates open

3 p.m.              Family Fun Zone located in VIP parking lot... just look for the giant Aquafina

                Bottle! First 200 children to arrive will receive a free Rexie Stuffed Animal courtesy

                of Rex Healthcare. The Family Fun Zone will be open until 7 p.m.

4 p.m.             Indy Model Boat Regatta Presented by the Triangle Model Yacht Club

5:30 p.m.         Ice cream eating contest presented by Lumpy’s Ice Cream

5:45 p.m.         Cary Town Band

7:30 p.m.         Flag Processional by Boy Scouts

7:30 p.m.         North Carolina Symphony concert

9 p.m.              Fireworks

 

And the sweet treats continue on Thursday, July 5 with an Ice Cream Social for seniors ages 55 and older at the Cary Senior Center ballroom at Bond Park, 2-4 p.m.   Co-sponsored by the Town of Cary , Ashworth Drugs and the Rotary Club of Cary, the event will feature free ice cream and patriotic entertainment by the Bond Park day camp children.  Registration has closed.
