CHANCE NAMED TOWN OF CARY EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

CARY , NC – With 13 years of experience and an outstanding commitment to service, Sammie Chance has been named the Town of Cary ’s 2007 Employee of the Year.  Chance, 47, currently serves as Recycling Equipment Operator in the Public Works and Utilities’ Recycling unit and was chosen from a field of 16 excellent nominees from the Town’s nearly 1,100 employees.  He was honored with a plaque and a $1,000 savings bond.  

The announcement was made today at the Town’s Annual Employee Recognition Luncheon at the Herb Young Community Center in Cary, during which dozens of staff were also recognized for reaching years of service milestones.

"We’re very proud of Sammie’s accomplishments and his dedication to providing the Town with exceptional solid waste collection services and customer service skills that enable us to better serve our citizens,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.  “Like so many of this year’s finalists, Sammie represents the type of exemplary employee we strive to attract and retain in the Town of Cary.”

In addition to maintaining an excellent work and safety record, Chance serves as a “coach” both on and off the job.  According to one of his colleagues, he is a “real motivator for others to excel in their respective job performances.”  In his spare time, Chance sings in the men’s choir at his church and volunteers to coach sporting events sponsored by local recreation departments.

The Town of Cary ’s Employee of the Year program was established in 1989 to recognize employees who consistently perform well beyond what the job description requires. Nominees are consistently courteous and helpful to others, and they strive to improve themselves and participate in the community.  Many nominations included accolades from Cary citizens.  For more about the program, see Employee of the Year at www.townofcary.org.
