CITIZENS INVITED TO give more input on Parking Plans For Downtown CARY

Location and design of future parking facilities to be discussed

CARY , NC As a follow up to the first meeting held in August, the Town of Cary is hosting an interactive planning and design session for downtown parking on Thursday, November 29 at the Herb Young Community Center , 101 Wilkinson Ave. , 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.   During the meeting, citizens will review the consultants’ preliminary ideas and help find solutions to downtown parking issues, including planning for the location and site design of future facilities.

“By attending this meeting, you can be instrumental in deciding the look and location of downtown parking facilities in Cary ,” said Senior Planner Anne Morris.  “We are looking forward to developing a concise plan that will better guide decision-making regarding downtown parking and improve service for people living, doing business and participating in activities in the heart of our community.”

The results of this week’s meeting will be incorporated into a draft plan, along with the results of a downtown business survey, surveys collected at the first public input session and the input of key downtown stakeholders.  Another public meeting will be held in January to share the results of the draft plan with the public and to take further comment.

Designed to create a comprehensive parking strategy, the plan will consider issues related to the management of the existing supply of parking, as well as a strategy for future needs, which will likely incorporate a combination of on-street and structured parking facilities.  This Downtown Parking Strategic Implementation Plan will be used to guide decision making with regard to continuing efforts to encourage new business and living opportunities in the downtown Cary .

Rich and Associates of Southfield, MI was awarded the contract to create the plan at a cost not to exceed $59,150 as part of the Town of Cary ’s fiscal year 2008 budget.
