CUNNINGHAM TO LEAVE CARY PD

Bazemore to become Interim Chief

 

CARY, NC – Town of Cary Police Chief Scott A. Cunningham announced his resignation after more than two years of service to pursue other professional opportunities; his last day of employment will be December 23, 2007 .  Cunningham was selected as Cary ’s Chief of Police in August 2005 following a national search.  He previously served as Assistant Chief for the Tampa , FL Police Department. 

 

Cunningham brought many new ideas to the operation of the Cary Police Department that may be used to enhance service to citizens.  During his tenure, the Cary Police Department was re-accredited and recognized as a leader in the management of sex offenders.  In addition, 20 new officer positions were created and filled. 

 

“Chief Cunningham has worked hard in trying to position the department to better serve the citizens and community going forward.  We wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.

 

Chief Cunningham said, “It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the fine men and women of the Cary Police Department as they deliver world-class service to the outstanding citizens of Cary .” 

 

Deputy Chief Pat Bazemore will serve as the Town of Cary ’s Interim Chief of Police beginning December 23 while Coleman finalizes his approach to permanently filling the Chief of Police vacancy.
