Applause! CARY YOUTH THEATRE TO PERFORM POCAHONTAS THIS WEEK

CARY , NC One of the greatest childhood tales will come to life on stage this week when Applause! Cary Youth Theatre performs “Legend of Pocahontas” at Cary ’s Sertoma Amphitheatre at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park , 801 High House Road , on Thursday, May 10-Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.  Tickets can still be purchased for $10 (adults), $8 (seniors and students) and $5 (children under the age of 5) at the Herb Young Community Center box office, noon-6 p.m., Monday-Friday or through Ticketmaster at (919) 834-4000 or at www.ticketmaster.com.

Performed by about 30 youth ages 8-18, the show will be run entirely by a youth production cast and crew, including 10 teens that designed the show and will run all technical aspects.

“We are looking forward to another round of entertaining evenings with Cary ’s most talented performers,” said Youth Theatre Coordinator Rachel Green.  “We invite everyone out to relive the beauty and adventure of the Pocahontas story outdoors in the park’s natural setting.  While it’s the same, memorable script, we’ve got a different and phenomenal cast in this year’s show!”

Julya Mirro, theatre coordinator and acting technique professor at Shaw University , was chosen as the show’s director, and she has spent months preparing the cast for this year’s program.  Mirro has also worked with local companies including Ape & Astronaut and Flying Machine Theatre Company.

Now in its eighth season, Applause! offers two mainstage productions each year.  Applause!  productions introduce the world of theatre, performance and production to first-time performers, designers and stagehands and give more advanced participants a chance to further develop their skills and interests.  The productions also nurture creativity and build confidence in young people. Applause! offers process-oriented theatre classes, camps and workshops staffed by professional actors, designers, directors and teachers.  The goal is to inspire confidence and creativity in young theatre enthusiasts while encouraging the exploration and development of both skill and interest.
