TONY RICE WILL JOIN ALISON KRAUSS AND UNION STATION THIS SPRING FOR A SELECT GROUP OF PERFORMANCES INCLUDING CARY ’S BOOTH AMPHITHEATRE

Cary , NC– Beginning April 21, 2007 Tony Rice will perform with Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas for a limited number of concerts comprised solely of Rice’s material. The performances will give audiences a rare opportunity to experience the depth and breadth of his distinguished career. The show is slated to play Booth Amphitheatre in Cary on Saturday, May 12. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 19.

With a body of work that spans over three decades, Rice has used bluegrass as the foundation for a series of acoustic explorations that have ranged from sophisticated jazz-informed instrumentals to haunting, heartbreaking songwriter-style folk. Alison Krauss and Union Station have long professed great musical admiration for Rice citing the profound impact his albums, including Cold on the Shoulder, Native American Manzanita and Me and My Guitar, have had on their concepts of acoustic music and their own individual development as musicians. With admiration shared by the all the members of Union Station bassist Barry Bales says, “It’s hard to find words to say what an influence Tony Rice has been on people of our generation who grew up in bluegrass.”

This special series of engagements gives Union Station an opportunity to bring Rice’s music to a new audience and to perform side by side with a most admired colleague. Drawing from his full catalog, the concerts will feature Rice on guitar accompanied by the vocals and fiddle of Krauss; Dan Tyminski on guitar, mandolin and vocals; Ron Block on guitar, banjo and vocals; Barry Bales on bass; and longtime Rice associate Jerry Douglas on Dobro.

Billed as “A Very Special Performance by Tony Rice and Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas: An evening of material from Tony’s 35-year career,” the schedule includes both Merlefest and Telluride festival performances.
