Cary , NC --This Sunday, July 29, will be proclaimed “Chicago Day” by the Town of Cary, NC.  The special commemoration will honor Chicago , the legendary rock ‘n roll band with horns, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary.  To date, the Grammy-winning band has sold more than 100,000,000 records and scored 20 Top 10 hits, 5 Number One albums, 5 Number One singles, and 5 Gold singles.  An incredible 25 of their 30 albums have been certified platinum. To date, Chicago is the only American band to chart Top 40 albums in five decades, a landmark accomplishment.

Some of the band’s biggest hits include ”Saturday in the Park”, “Beginnings”, “Hard to Say I’m Sorry”,25 or 6 to 4,” and “If You Leave Me Now,” a worldwide number one hit.  In addition to the Grammy award, the band has won numerous American Music Awards and has also been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Sunday, July 29, Chicago performs at Cary ’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Mayor Ernie McAlister, in recognition of the band’s long history of achievement and creativity, will officially recognize the day as Chicago Day  at a special ceremony that will take place backstage at 7:30 p.m. "The music of Chicago holds so many special memories for each of us. I consider it an honor and a pleasure to recognize their tremendous accomplishments," said McAlister. The band will receive a copy of the proclamation and the celebration will continue during the show as the audience lights up the night sky with glow-stick birthday candles.

Local fan club member, Deborah Gray originated the idea as a way to show appreciation to the band for their timeless music, which means so much to those in Cary and across the country.

Starting in 1967, well before all the hits started flowing, Chicago established a reputation for its powerful live show.  Fueled by a passion for music, Chicago ’s members exploded the conventions of what rock music could or should be.  The result was a groundbreaking new form, played by extraordinarily talented musicians.  Robert Lamm (vocals, keyboards), James Pankow (trombone), Lee Loughnane (trumpet) Walt Parazaider (woodwinds) remain in the band today and are joined by four other accomplished musicians:  Jason Scheff (bass, vocals), Bill Champlin (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Tris Imboden (drums), and Keith Howland (guitars).

The Chicago show on Sunday, July 29 at Cary ’s Booth Amphitheatre will mark their first appearance at the venue. Tickets to the show are still available and can be purchased at the Amphitheatre box office and online at www.LiveNation.com
