CARY POLICE CHARGE TOWN EMPLOYEE IN TIRE SLASHINGS

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary’s Police Department today charged John Gia Le of 101 Corey Lane in Cary with 12 counts of "Injury to Personal Property" in connection with a recent string of tire vandalisms at three Town parks.  Le, 51, has worked with the Town of Cary since June 10, 2002, most recently as a Facilities Attendant in the Town’s Public Works and Utilities Department.  Le confessed to the crimes and was taken this afternoon to the Wake County Public Safety Center in Raleigh where a $15,000 secured bond has been set. He has also been suspended from work pending the completion of an internal review by the Town’s Human Resources Department.

Since May 6, 2006, the Cary Police have received reports of tires being punctured on seven vehicles at the North Cary Park, Sk8 Park, and Annie L. Jones Park.  In most of the cases, the victims noticed flat tires as they were leaving the park.  The most recent incident occurred today just before 6 a.m. at North Cary Park.  Total estimated damages are $2,675.

“We appreciate the help of a citizen eyewitness who was able to provide us with the evidence we needed to close the case,” said Captain Dave Wulff.

“At the Town of Cary, we work very hard to hire and retain the very best employees, and we expect everyone who works with us to be committed to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, fairness, and truth,” said Town Manager Bill Coleman.  “When issues involving employees do arise, we take them very seriously and carefully explore areas where we can improve.”

Cary Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information related to crimes.  If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E), or contact Captain Dave Wulff at (919) 469-4017.  All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
