WINNING STUDENTS TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR TAKING STAND AGAINST DRUGS

 

WHAT:           Recognize and announce the Red Ribbon Poster Contest winners from four Cary middle schools

WHEN:          Thursday, November 9, 2006

                        5 p.m.

WHERE:        Herbert C. Young Community Center , 101 Wilkinson Ave. on the Town Hall Campus

WHO:             The Town of Cary Police Department and Town Council Member Julie Robison will announce the winners of the Red Ribbon Poster Contest, a competition sponsored by the Town to promote a drug-free lifestyle.  All school winners, their families, poster judges, and the Town Council have been invited to participate in a pizza dinner before the meeting, and winners will be recognized during the meeting.

 

BACKGROUND:

Sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students at Davis Drive, Reedy Creek, West Cary and West Lake middle schools demonstrated their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle during Red Ribbon week, October 23-31.  In addition to wearing red ribbons during the week-long event, students were invited to submit entries in the poster contest that incorporated the theme “Believe, Achieve, Succeed – Drug Free!”  Three winners were selected from each school, and the first place winner from each school competed for the overall winner.  The Town of Cary ’s Police and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources departments coordinate the event each year.

The winning posters from each school are hanging in the atrium next to the Town Hall Council Chambers, 316 North Academy St .

 

DIRECTIONS:

From I-40, travel west on N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road and make a left onto North Academy Street .  The Herbert C. Young Community Center is located at the corner of North Academy and Chapel Hill roads, adjacent to the Town Hall campus.
