CARY, NC – “Cary
Performs” held its premier performance last April in Cary, and the program has
already garnered statewide attention, bringing home the 2006 Arts &
Humanities Award among municipalities with a population greater than 75,000 at
the 2006 N.C. Recreation and Parks Association Convention (NCRPA).
Cary Performs was developed as a
new opportunity to provide additional collaboration among performing groups and
the Cultural Arts Division. The show
featured the Town’s most talented performance groups on one stage – Applause!
Youth Theatre,
“We are delighted to once
again be recognized for our innovative approach to arts and leisure programming
for our citizens,” said Cultural Arts Manager Lyman Collins.
The Town has received the Arts and Humanities award 12 times since 1990
for programs including the July 4th Celebration with the N.C.
Symphony, Shakespeare in the Park, and the Page-Walker Quilt Exhibition for
9/11, to name a few.
The NCRPA’s mission is to
encourage and assist in the advancement and development of recreation and park
services in the state of North Carolina; to aid and promote the growth of
professional recreators, citizen board members and volunteers by providing
information and training opportunities; and to support the progress of
recreation and parks programs, services and facilities, shaping a better life
and future for North Carolina. Each
year, the NCRPA recognizes the most innovative and effective arts and humanities
programs of leisure service agency members of NCRPA.
