CARY POLICE ARREST MAN FOR ILLEGAL GREASE DUMPING

CARY, NC – Cary Police have arrested and charged Tommie Brian Beasley, 34, of 939 Green Leaf Road in Angier, NC with one count of Intentionally or Recklessly Dispose of Litter for Commercial Purposes – a Class I felony.  On Thursday, July 13, a Town of Cary Public Works and Utilities employee witnessed Beasley unloading a septic tank truck containing grease and oil into a grease interceptor at Pizza Hut, 920 NE Maynard Road , which is connected to the Town’s sewer collection system.  Beasley, the owner of Triangle Septic Tank Services of Angier, was driving his company’s septic tank truck at the time of the incident.

“Illegally dumping grease is a serious offense that leads to costly backups on the Town’s sewer collection system,” said Cary ’s Utility Pretreatment Coordinator Leon Holt.  “We do intend to pursue civil penalties in accordance with the Town’s Sewer Use Ordinance.”

Holt added that this is exactly the kind of action that can lead to the kind of sewer overflow that Cary experienced earlier this week.

Intentionally or Recklessly Dispose of Litter for Commercial Purposes carries a maximum penalty of 3-12 months in prison.

Beasley was transported to the Wake County Public Safety Center .

In 1998, the Town established a Pretreatment Program designed to work with commercial and residential customers to reduce the amount of fats, oils, and greases (FOG) that are disposed of each year into the municipal sewer system.
