CARY POLICE ARREST REMAINING TWO SUSPECTS IN ETHNIC INTIMIDATION CASE

CARY , NC The Town of Cary Police Department has arrested and charged the remaining two suspects accused of ethnically intimidating a 15-year-old black male near Lochmere Lake .  Police arrested Donald Roane Babington, 17, of 1525 Dogwood Road , Stanton , VA. today and Cameron Anthony Blackman, 16, of 114 Charlemagne Court on Thursday, August 3.  Each was charged with one count of ethnic intimidation and one count of simple assault.

On August 1, Police arrested the first of the three suspects – Matthew Salvatore Luongo, 16, of 103 Marvista Court – for the same charges as Babington and Blackman.  Luongo was later released on a $2,500 bond.  All three suspects are white; the victim is black.

On July 13, 2006 , the victim and his cousin were fishing at the boat ramp on Lochmere Drive in Cary when the suspects allegedly played blaring music with racially-charged lyrics.  The suspects then verbally and physically taunted the victim, pushing him and telling him to leave the area since he did not “belong” there, even though the victim is a Lochmere resident.

“We hope that these two arrests will bring a sense of closure to the victims and the community,” said Captain Dave Wulff.

Ethnic intimidation carries a maximum of 150 days in jail; simple assault carries a maximum of 60 days in jail.

Both Babington and Blackman were transported to the Wake County Public Safety Center where they were held on a $2,500 bond each.

Cary Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for additional information related to this crime.  If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E), or contact Captain Dave Wulff at (919) 469-4017. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
